The Melodramas Band: Ladies and gentlemen, on 4th February we make history...

After 2008's killer gig joined by mighty My Chemical Romance, the year 2010 will witness the return of Tiger Translate on the coming Feb 2nd with the youthful British punk act Melodramas supported by two local representatives Microwave and Unlimited.

M!osaic now have these Melodramas guys on a quick interview for latest information about them and the upcoming show...

1) In 3 sentences, how would you sum up Melodramas' history?

It's been dramatic, but in a good way! In the space of a year we've gone from entering a battle of the bands competition to playing shows in Kuwait, Perth (for Rolling Stone Magazine and Ho Chi Minh City. If you had told me all this was going to happen I wouldn't have believed you in the slightest.

2) How would you describe your sound? What are some of your key influences, and well, who are on your playlist today?

We like rock hooks and clever, eccentric pop. We like a lot of bands that do the same thing such as Blur and The Coral.  We also have big respect for your classic pop bands such as The Beatles. I like the idea of taking a popularised format and doing something clever with it. Also, rocking hard features highly on our 'to do' list.

3) We've read that Melodramas gained traction by winning a talent contest, do you believe these sorts of contests are important in breaking new bands in the UK?

We entered a competition to find the best new band without thinking too much about it. We had only been a band for three months and just a few songs, but we ended up winning and it helped us gain fans and a few more gigs which was cool. It's not a deal-breaker but, sure, it helped. It's the hard work afterwards that has really opened doors. I think such competitions can be good for a band but it's not essential.

4) Supporting the New York Dolls must've been a great experience, but what you would say was your best live experience ever? And how would you describe your experience of touring so far to our readers?

Yea, that was pretty awesome! They are legends and it was great to just see them play let alone share the stage with them. October last year was crazy, heading to Kuwait, back to Engalnd, out to Perth and then finally back to England (all within 15 days). It sounds like a cliché but as long as the audience have a great time then we're happy. Everyone has been so nice on our travels so far and I have no doubt that Vietnam will be the same.

5) Being invited by Tiger Translate, you are apparently among the most influential acts out there chosen to connect with the growing music scene in Asia.  Are you here to break a new wave of British music on foreign shores (or just to enjoy yourselves) ?

The Tiger Translate project is an amazing thing and we're really happy to be involved. The scene in Asia is probably the most exciting thing to happen to music at the moment and we're here to celebrate that. How can you forget a place like Vietnam when touring? You guys are awesome! As for breaking a sound we're doing our own thing; we are Melodramas.

6) You obviously aim to bring Melodramas music to much wider audience other than the traditional circle. In taking your music outside your comfort zone, to a much wider audience, what are your expectations?

We are learning all the time, about cultures, audiences and perhaps a little bit about ourselves along the way. We expect to rock hard, party and make lots of new friends.

7) What have you assumed about Vietnam so far? The country, the people and the music. Was playing in Vietnam a part of your great plan or just another great opportunity brought by Tiger Translate? Please reveal to us more, would you?

Everyone has been very enthusiastic and welcoming. I haven't been to Vietnam before but have read a lot about the country and seen how beautiful it is through the footage on television and on the internet. A lot of my friends are very jealous I am making this trip. Tiger translate have presented us with an opportunity that, at this stage of our career at least, would not have been forthcoming. In the future we hope to return. I don't think we could possibly forget Vietnam even if we tried. I have made lots of friends through our web space www.facebook.com/melodramastheband and www.myspace.com/melodramastheband I try to add as many people as I can to my MSN to talk about about Vietnam; I'm trying to get a grip of things and acquaint myself with the Vietnamese way of life before I land.

8) Most of our readers don't know your music, and many aren't familiar with your style.  What would you say to them to encourage them to come and see you play live?

We rock as a band, you rock as a country and as an audience – can you IMAGINE how cool this is going to be? You'll want to able to say you were at the first Melodramas concert in Vietnam. Ladies and gentlemen, on 4th February we make history...

M!osaic and Vietnamese audience are excitedly counting down the days to your highly anticipated performance. Wish you success and lastly a conversation after the show.
